Rita recovery efforts reach 500/100 milestone

TDHCA has reached a significant milestone in its disaster recovery efforts to rebuild homes and local economies devastated by Hurricane Rita.

As of July 5, the Department had 554 single-family construction starts underway and has completed work on another 112 homes. These homes are being repaired or replaced using $222 million through TDHCA’s Homeowner Assistance and Sabine Pass Restoration programs.

A total of 475 homes were previously repaired or replaced with $74.5 million in hurricane disaster recovery funds, meaning that TDHCA has thus far completed reconstruction work on 587 single-family homes in Southeast Texas.

Ultimately, the Department plans on rebuilding or replacing another 2,700 homes for areas residents who were impacted by this destructive storm.
