TDHCA Approves $31 Million in HOME Single Family Awards
The TDHCA Governing Board on August 19 approved $31 million in funding to 103 cities, counties, public housing authorities, and nonprofit organizations through the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program’s single family awards. The entire list of staff recommendations is available on the HOME Program page.
The awards will help applicants address their communities’ affordable housing needs through three primary activities: homebuyer assistance for low income homebuyers, the repair or replacement of single family homes owned and lived in by low income individuals, and rent subsidies and utility deposits for low income renters. Five percent of the award total was set-aside for applicants serving persons with disabilities.
Of the $31 million awarded, $21 million was earmarked to perform home repair services such as roof, electrical system, and plumbing repairs, or the complete replacement of the home. Another $4.5 million will provide homebuyer assistance in the form of loans to help cover eligible down payment and closing costs.
The remaining balance will go toward rent payment assistance and funding for homebuyer assistance, rental assistance, and home repair or retrofit projects where 100 percent of the households served include persons with disabilities.
