Energy efficiency and home affordability: a winning combination

Whether or not Texans own or rent their homes, everyone can take energy cost-saving measures to maintain their home's affordability. Just a few easy weatherization steps can ease everyone's household budget this winter.

Weatherization is easy, it saves money, and it lessens the strain on our energy resources. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reports that 98,181 Texans have taken a pledge to replace at least one incandescent light bulb in their home with a compact florescent light (CFL) bulb[1] resulting in the following:

  • Greenhouse Gases: 132,269,615 fewer pounds released into the air
  • Dollars: $9,567,949 total saved by all Texans using CFL bulbs
  • Energy Savings: 84,430,820 kWh total energy savings in Texas
  • Light Bulbs: 264,875 are currently being used in Texas

According to the DOE, people who have weatherized their home have saved an average of as much as $300 in annual utility costs. That’s more money for other needs, such as food, medicine, and gas. Now, that’s a winning combination.
