TDHCA Awards $13.8 Million in Disaster Relief Funds Through HOME Program
(Austin) - The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs recently awarded $13.8 million in Single Family HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program Deobligated Funds for disaster relief to 27 local governments and nonprofit organizations. The funds will be used to help 17 cities and counties in Regions 2, 9, 10, and 11 repair approximately 280 homes damaged by natural disasters that occurred from June 2002 to April 2003.
The $13.8 million award will be divided into four separate awards. The first totals $8 million and will be used to repair homes damaged by heavy rains and flooding that occurred from June 28 to July 7, 2002. The second totals $2.5 million and will be used to repair homes damaged by Tropical Storm Faye that affected the Texas coast from September 6 to September 9, 2002. The third totals $2 million and will be used to repair homes damaged by heavy rains and flooding that occurred from October 24 to November 5, 2002. The fourth totals $800,000 and will be used to repair homes damaged by tornados that occurred on April 6 and April 23, 2003.
TDHCA adopted a deobligation policy at its January 2002 Board meeting. In accordance with the Deobligation Policy, unexpended awards, loans, grants, or program income can be used in relief efforts of federal or state declared disasters.
