TDHCA Awards $60,000 in CSBG Emergency Project Funds

The Department recently approved two funding requests totaling $60,000 through the Community Services Block Grant Program (CSBG) and its Special Demonstration Emergency Project Fund. Funds were awarded to two eligible CSBG subrecipients located in Uvalde and Dallas to help area residents recover from natural disaster.

Community Council of Southwest Texas (CCSWT) received $30,000 to provide emergency assistance to low income persons affected by a tornado that struck the Uvalde Estates Colonia Subdivision in Uvalde County in March 2006. CCSWT will use the funds to provide eligible clients food, clothing, medical and pharmaceutical supplies, temporary shelter, transportation, and emergency utility assistance.

The Department also awarded $30,000 to the Urban League of Greater Dallas and North Central Texas (DUL), which the organization will use to assist low income persons hard hit by flooding in a manufactured home subdivision in Grand Prairie this past March. The funds will help DUL provide residents with food, clothing, medical prescriptions, personal hygiene items, bedding, cleaning supplies, and the replacement of essential appliances (stoves, refrigerators, and water heaters).
